The much-anticipated Eid Al Fitr break is fast approaching, marking the first major public holiday of 2025 in the UAE. Whether you’re planning a quick getaway, quality time with loved ones, or just some well-deserved rest, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming holidays.
How Many Days Off for Eid Al Fitr 2025?
The UAE government has confirmed at least three public holidays for Eid Al Fitr, with a possible fourth day off if Ramadan extends to 30 days.
Since Islamic holidays follow the Hijri calendar, determined by moon sightings, the exact dates will be confirmed closer to the event. However, based on astronomical predictions:
- If Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid Al Fitr is expected to begin on Sunday, March 30, 2025, meaning holidays from March 30 to April 1 (Sunday to Tuesday). When combined with the weekend, that’s a four-day break.
- If Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid Al Fitr would start on Monday, March 31, 2025, with holidays from March 31 to April 2 (Monday to Wednesday). This would give many a five-day break, including the weekend.
With Ramadan falling in winter until 2031, longer months are more likely due to cloudy conditions affecting moon sightings.
What is Eid Al Fitr?
Eid Al Fitr, meaning the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of Islam’s most significant celebrations, marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. The day begins with special prayers, gatherings with family and friends, and acts of charity.
